Materials

Slate Roofing.

A slate roof is a 100-year roof. Most roofs get replaced three times in the years one slate roof serves.

The stone doesn't fade, doesn't rot, and doesn't care about hail. What matters is the installation, because slate forgives nothing. Every piece is hung by hand. The coursing, the headlap, the flashing details: that's where a slate roof is made or ruined.

We've been installing natural slate across the Southeast for 30 years. Our crews are career slate men. We source from the nation's foremost quarries, and we install to a standard most roofers have never seen, because most roofers have never touched slate.

Our Expertise

The material that built our reputation.

Slate is the material that built our reputation. Our crews have hung slate on new custom homes, landmark estates, and museum buildings. We handle full replacements, repairs, and restorations, including matching stone on roofs older than the men installing it.

Because slate is unforgiving, we are deliberate: proper headlap for the pitch, copper flashing that will outlast the stone, and coursing laid out by eye and by experience. There are no shortcuts in slate. That's why we like it.

Common Questions

Asked and answered.

How long does a slate roof last?

A century or more. The fasteners and flashing get attention along the way; the stone itself outlives the house.

What does it cost?

More than shingles, less than replacing shingles three times. Every roof is different. Call us and we'll tell you straight.

Can you match existing slate on an old roof?

Yes. That's half our work: repairs and restoration on roofs older than the crew installing them.

How much does a slate roof cost?

It depends on the slate, the complexity, and the size. Figure a properly installed slate roof costs several times what shingles cost — and lasts five to ten times as long. We price every job individually and tell you straight what's driving the number.

Natural slate vs. synthetic slate?

Natural slate is stone with a 100-plus-year life and color no factory can fake. Synthetic is lighter and cheaper, but it won't outlive you. We install natural slate.

How long does installation take?

A typical home takes several weeks; large or complex roofs take longer. You'll get a real schedule before we start, and we keep to it.

Do you work outside Georgia?

Yes. Our shop is in Roswell, GA, our core territory is the Southeast, and we travel up to 1,000 miles from Atlanta for landmark projects.
