How I got here.
When I was 14, I started roofing with my father during summer break. It was hard work, but I loved working with my hands. That feeling of accomplishment at the end of each day, looking over what we'd done — indescribable. Working beside my father, I learned by example the principles that still run this company:
- Always do the best job possible with the ability and the materials you have.
- Give everyone you work with the respect and kindness you want for yourself.
- Create an environment where people want to work with you.
In 1982, at 22, I was hired as a laborer at Collins Sheet Metal & Roofing in Denver. There I learned to install slate, tile, cedar, and copper the way the old-timers had done it for generations — quality first, always. Soon after, I entered the Associated Builders & Contractors sheet metal apprenticeship, where I learned the fabrication and installation principles of architectural copper roofing and flashing. Within four years I was general manager of the company.
I moved to Atlanta, and in 1994 I founded Roofing Specialists, Inc. — built around the four materials I'd mastered at Collins. My mission is the same one my father taught me: give clients and employees the benefit of those principles. Unsurpassed quality at a fair price. Our seasoned crew brings the skill; those principles bring the rest. The result is the best-looking, best-performing roof we know how to build — one that lasts.
